For UEA weekend we decided to take a mini vacation and stay overnight at the Homestead Resort in Midway, Utah. It wasn't our wished for trip to Disneyland but we had a lot of fun and the kids didn't know what they were missing. We went went for a walk, then swam in the natural springs pool and ate dinner in our room watching cartoons. Sophia LOVED the pool. We kept her in the warm end and she splashed and laughed the whole time! The next morning in our search for a good place for breakfast, we got sidetracked by miniature golf... a favorite of Josh and Zach's. It was a great getaway!

AF Canyon

We took a drive up American Fork Canyon on Conference Sunday. Josh wore his Spiderman mask most of the time and we got some priceless video footage of him fighting bad guys when he didn't know we were looking. Both Joey and myself are getting more into photography and tried to get some good shots of the kids. In spite of the bad Spiderman hair and a sleepy crew all around,we got a few good shots. My favorite is of Sophia at her 'I've had it' moment! I put some others over on the side of the blog.

Soccer

Both boys had a lot of fun playing soccer this fall. It was Zach's first time and it took a little coaxing but overall he had a lot of fun. Last year when Josh played his very first game ever we were a little nervous about the whole thing, wondering what he would do because he had never even had a practice before the first game. But he got out there and went right after the ball! We were so proud! About 15 minutes later he stopped in the middle of the field, threw his hand down, and then stomped over to where we were sitting. "I don't want to play soccer anymore," he said. "Why not?" we replied. "Because the other team keeps trying to take the ball!" he exclaimed.

The Fam

Summer Fun

We had a lot of family come from out of state this summer and even though our schedules were a little out of control with all of the running around, we loved every minute of it! Thanksgiving Point was a great meeting place for both sides of the family.

Cabin 2008

We had a wonderful time at the cabin this year, especially because Karen and Doug were in town. The cabin is located on 160 acres of pure beauty with a perfect stream running through. The kids have no trouble finding the next adventure to conquer. We roasted hot dogs and had s'mores much to the kids' delight. Doug talked us into sleeping over at the last minute so we gathered whatever blankets we could find and tried to go to sleep. Zach, our night owl was the last child to give in but then Sophia decided at one in the morning that things were much too peaceful and she had to shake things up a bit. I am guessing she is teething, so mine and everyone else's sleepless night was for a good cause.

4th of July

We had a great time on the 4th of July. We went to Sara and Timo's for lunch and homemade ice cream (made with the ice cream maker I got Joey for father's day.) The kids had a blast on the Brimhall's huge water slide and play set. We then went to Dave and Jolene's for their neighborhood party and fireworks. Josh, who is not fond of loud noises, actually lasted a bit longer than last year before he found refuge in cousin Sammy's house. Zach loved the sparklers and snaps and Sophia mostly just looked bewildered by the whole event!

Eagle Mountain Carnival

We had a great time at the Eagle Mountain Carnival. Since we live in the middle of nowhere it was great... there were no lines for the kids to wait in. I went with the kids on the ferris wheel and discovered that I was a little afraid of heights. We sat at the top for quite a while and every time the kids leaned forward, rocking the car, I just about had a heart attack. Josh wanted to climb the rock wall and we were very impressed that he made it all the way to the top and rang the bell. He is much higher than it looks in the picture because I zoomed the camera in for a closer shot.

Joey's Summer Project

Joey has spent the majority of his summer picking rocks out of our backyard (with our help), putting in a sprinkler system (with Dad Hacking's help), picking out more rocks and hauling them away (with our help), hauling a gajillion loads of top soil to the backyard (with the help of some neighbors and Will), laying sod (with the help of our now very long-suffering neighbors), and then hauling more top soil to the back yard (all by his little old self.) The yard is far from being done but we are ecstatic about having grass!! YEAH!!!! Now if we could just get our back fence in...
